The highlight of Moura's annual event calendar is attended by thousands of locals, visitors, and past residents who attend an action packed week for the annual Moura Coal and Country Festival in August each year.
Established since 1971, the Festival has reached new strengths through the commitment of the community and Moura Mine Management.
With the Moura Mine operating since 1961, the Moura Coal and Country Festival has proven to be a community stabiliser, in the face of past tragedies and uncertainties within the local mining community.
Many mining families who left town following the closure of the underground mine, are drawn back each year by the annual event to reunite with old friends and family.
The Moura Recreation Ground is where the hub of activities are held, where there is something for everyone: spectacular fireworks displays; wheelbarrow races; the Queensland Coal Shovelling Championships; a rodeo; wood chopping; live Central Queensland bands; a crasharama and motorbike event; as well as the ever popular side show alley for the kids and much, much more.

37 YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG
The colourful event has even spawned world champions, such as the Queensland Coal Shovelling Title. Another highlight is the timed roof bolting event, which was a mining initiative.
Event Organiser and Deputy Mayor Maureen Clancy believes that the success of the event is a true testament to the strength of the community and the commitment of the Moura Mine. "The mine has had changes in management over the years, but they recognise the importance that the community places on this event and have remained our biggest financial and in-kind supporter for the past 37 years," she said.
